The University of Alabama School of Medicine (UASOM) is dedicated to the education of physicians and Scientists
in all of the displines of medicine and biomedical investigation for careers in
practice, teaching and research. Neccessary to this educational mission is the provision
of outstanding medical care and services and enhancement to new knowledge through
clinical and basic biomedical research.
The School will be one of the top ten medical schools within five years. Excellence
in education, clinical care and service and in basic, clinical and applied research
is essential to achieve this mission.

The task of the educational Division is to ensure adequate administrtaive support
to all Ob/Gyn residents and medical students and to assist the Residency director
and Clerkship Director in providing a quality educational experience.

Residency Program
The Obstertrics and Gynecology Residency program at The University of Alabama School
of Medicine (UASOM) provides high quality education for resident physicians.
As
you will see, our program is proud to balance we have among our strong clinical
services in Obstetrics, Women's Pelvic Medicine, and Resconstructive Surgery, Gynecologyc
Oncology, and reproductive endocrinology and Infertility.

Department of Obstretrics Gynecology
Clerkship Program
Direct patient-student contact in clinical settings, will be utilized to illustrate
curricular content. During the eight week period, we hope to provide you with a
foundation of knowledge and skills to care for the health needs of women.
You will be exposed to normal and patholgic conditions associated with female reproductive
organs such as menstruation, conception, and pregnancy. You will also be introduced
to broader concepts of primary care for women with emphasis on preventive
care and periodic screening. This will be accomplished by direct patient contact
in clinics, wards, operating room, and labor and delivery suites. Also student-dedicated
lectures, computer-assisted instruction, and case studies will supplement the clinical
education.
