Part of the mission of the UAB Department of Obstretrics and Gynecology is
to establish the patient centered care environment. Women's and Infant Services helps to
patients by providing the services such as
Social Worker Services, Child Birth Classes, Nutrition Guidelines, Laboratory Services and Educational Seminars.
Social Worker Services

The Social Worker actively contributes as an inter-disciplinary team member
with all health care providers by linking and coordinating beneficiary
services to ensure that the most comprehensive program fulfills the clients
needs for care. Care Coordination responsibilities of the social worker
includes, but are not limited to, psychosocial risk assessment, assessing
the medical and social needs, developing service plans, providing information
and education, identifying barriers to care and tracking throughout their
pregnancy and post-partum period.
Community and medical referrals including mental health, transportation,
childbirth classes, assisting with the needs of non-English speaking patients,
housing, post-partum and discharge planning.

At UAB, we want to make your pregnancy, child birth and early parenting experience
as enjoyable as possible. That is why we offer, a series of educational classes to prepare you
for what you're about to experience.

Nutrition Program

The main rule of healthy eating during pregnancy is having a balanced diet. This means your diet
should include plenty of fruits and vegetables, protein, grains and lots of hydrating fluids.

Laboratory Services

OB/GYN Research and Diagnostic Laboratory conduct different tests based on patient condition.
Laboratory supports prenatal lab includes ABO/Rh Blood Typing, Antibody Screen, Rubella Antibody,
RPR-Routine Screening, Hepatitis B Surface Antigen, HIV - 1 Antibody-Routine Screening.
Laboratory also supports Endocrine and Tumor Assays includes Quntitative beta-hCG, Thyroid
